The inspiration for this painting came from one summer night some years ago when my husband and I were having a drink sitting in our balcony in our unit in North Sydney. As the night was falling and Sydney skyline was illuminating the harbour became this magical place.
I used strong colours to depict the changes in the sky and softer colours in the middle ground to indicate that the buildings were in the dark. I used white to paint the table and chairs in the foreground as to give the impression that artificial light was coming from inside the unit. The shape of the objects in the foreground and closer middle ground are a bit blurred in order to highlight the background.
My style is impressionism. I used professional quality oils on gallery stretched canvas. The sides are painted black and it has a strong wire at the back so it can be hung as is or it can be framed.
